Medea Vodka | Award-winning vodka made by House of Herman Jansen What’s the gimmick? This unvarnished question came from a restaurant owner’s staff when he opened up a restaurant in Scottsdale. The staffer might have put it indelicately, but really, hospitality loves a gimmick—that unique feature that captures peoples’ attentions, which, these days, lasts a whole eight seconds. When Medea Vodka appeared on the scene in 2010, it had an undeniable gimmick: A programmable LED message band on the bottle inspired by that bastion of high-tech creativity, the New York Stock Exchange. E-people weren’t the only one’s to glom onto the vodka. It made a fun, um, gimmick. In 2014, Medea changed the technology. “Medea was introduced in limited production in 2010,” explained Medea CEO Brandon Laidlaw. “Medea Vodka came with the first generation manually-programmable bottle, with limited capabilities.” Since then, Medea’s tech team made the message band personally programmable through a mobile app. The patented technology is the first and only one in the world, which can be programmed, and the only bluetooth-enabled LED bottle. The battery lasts for 18 to 20 hours and cannot be recharged or replaced.
